Koko’s Big News: A Bittersweet Goodbye
I woke up to an unexpected text this morning: “Did you adopt a dog this morning?”
Attached was a screenshot of Koko’s listing with the words “I have a home!” next to her name.
My heart soared, Kokomi, or Koko as I like to call her, had finally been adopted!
After 104 days at the shelter, Koko has found her tribe.
I felt incredible joy for her but couldn’t ignore the bittersweet twinge of sadness.
Since October 6, 2024, I’ve walked her almost every week.
I remember our very first walk together vividly. (You can read all about it here).
She was curious, playful, and full of that husky charm I couldn’t resist.
Even then, I could tell she was special.
We’ve shared countless moments, from navigating a few chaotic situations to enjoying peaceful strolls.
Koko’s vibrant personality and gentle spirit turned every walk into a adventure.
As a volunteer walker, I try my best not to get too attached.
My role is to be a temporary friend until they find their forever home.
But Koko will always hold a special place in my heart.
She’ll go down as my favorite husky, a dog who taught me so much about resilience and joy.
While I’ll miss her, I’m beyond grateful that she has a family to love her now.
I’ll cherish every memory we made and celebrate the new chapter she’s starting.
Happy paws all around, Koko! You deserve all the love in the world.
