This Dog Wants To Be Free

Her eyes are like daggers to my heart that . . .

Ok, that sounds really painful, but seriously those piercing blue eyes stop me in my tracks each time I see Rachel Amber.

You know a dog is special when they have two names.

German shelter mix dog
Look at those eyes!

Miss Rachel is a 1 year old German shelter mix that loves to get out and explore her surroundings.

I’ve walked her multiple times and each time we go out her personality shines through.

We’re working on the sit command which she is a pro at.

When I tell her to sit and she obeys, I reach in my bag to get a treat, I don’t know if I’m too slow for her or if she’s excited but she lets out a quick bark in anticipation for her treat.

It startled me at 1st because I never heard her bark but now it’s an enduring trait of hers.

With our walk coming to a close it’s time to part ways and return Rachel back to her kennel . . .

However Rachel refuses to go back inside!!!

I’m standing inside the kennel pulling, tugging and struggling to get her inside.

She would not budge an inch, she planted her behind firmly on the ground.

Oh, I forgot to mention this all took place in the dark.

Imagine fumbling in the dark with a rebellious puppy.

Unfortunately or fortunately, depending on your point view, I wasn’t alone in Rachel’s kennel.

Rachel has a kennel mate named Chloe Price, who was jumping on me and licking me for attention during this whole ordeal.

Chloe was beyond the sweetest thing, I promised her that I would walk her next time. (I kept my promise to Chloe, her story will be up soon)

Before I know it, the door swings shut with a loud clank, Rachel’s leash is stuck in the middle.

The other dogs in the kennel hall start barking like crazy.

Unsure of how to get her inside the kennel, I dialed the shelter for assistance . . . I don’t know what I was thinking, it wasn’t like they could hear me over the soundtrack of thunderous dogs.

But I desperately needed help.

Someone picked up and I shouted into the abyss.

Fortunately luck was on my side, the person who answered the phone noticed Rachel sitting down through the window and came to my rescue.

They forcibly guided her back into the kennel.

Wow, talk about a comedy of errors on my part, Rachel is such a character!

If you want to free Rachel from her kennel so she can continue exploring the world, you can adopt her at the Grand Prairie Animal Shelter

Her ID is A219946
