This Poor Dog Wants To Experience Love

The next dog I walked after my odd encounter with a German gentlemen was a timid and shy girl named Fern.

Fern is a 7 year old Doberman Pinscher mix with a left cherry eye. (I never heard of a cherry eye and was curious if it would go away on its own or if it requires medicine. I later learned that fixing a cherry eye requires surgery)

Fern has been in the shelter for 132 days!!!

Before we went out for our walk, the kennel staff informed me about Fern’s shyness and said she’ll feel more confident if her kennel mate, Ruger, was near her while walking.

Fortunately for Fern and I, my walking buddy walked Ruger allowing us to go out on an adventure together.

Fern was wary of me so I made sure to be extra cautious with my interactions with her.

The slightest movement I made would startle her.

I could move my hand to scratch my arm and she would become uneasy, which makes me wonder if she came from unpleasant living situation.

I didn’t want to overwhelm her so we did a short 30 min walk.

During our walk, I probably petted her once as I didn’t want to make her feel uncomfortable.

We just enjoyed each other’s company.

I would talk to her every so often and then me and my walking buddy would go back to chatting.

Fern walked beautifully on the leash, I found the click clack of her nails on the pavement oddly soothing.

When we made it to the water bowl I surprisingly got Fern to pose for me . . .  in exchange for a treat of course.

I really enjoyed my time spent with Fern, she is such a lovely pup.

I hope this shy girl finds her perfect home soon.

She desperately needs to experience the love and warmth of a caring human being.

If you want to show Fern what love is, visit here to checkout her ID & bio.

You can find her and other adoptable pets at the Grand Prairie Animal Shelter.

Don’t live near this city, consider visiting your local animal shelter to receive and provide love to an animal in need.
